Oct. 2025
Journey of Realm: Dawn Dew is a striking indie project from CongSe Studio, brought to a wider audience by Anotherindie, that manages to stand out despite its humble roots. It follows the journey of Dew, a protagonist whose mission goes beyond defeating enemies and instead leans into themes of compassion, redemption, and the restoration of a world plagued by corruption. The story begins with a simple premise of fighting back against the black beasts that threaten the realm, but as the adventure progresses, it becomes clear that the narrative has deeper undertones. It touches on the consequences of greed, the destruction of beauty, and the lingering scars of lost histories, grounding its fantastical setting with surprisingly thoughtful ideas. The tale is not meant to be overly complex or revolutionary, but its sincerity and thematic consistency make it engaging from start to finish. The game’s visual identity is rooted in detailed pixel art and 2D aesthetics that capture both the bleakness and beauty of the world. Maps are structured in a “box-style” fashion that gives exploration a gridlike feel, but the lush artistry ensures the experience is far from sterile. Forests, rivers, and ruins carry a quiet sense of atmosphere, and teleportation points are smartly implemented to prevent exploration from becoming tedious. While the scope is smaller than what you might find in big-budget RPGs, there is care in how every location is framed, giving each new environment a distinct mood that draws the player deeper into Dew’s quest. Gameplay is where Dawn Dew truly shines, offering a layered turn-based combat system with surprising flexibility. Dew can adopt different postures, each altering her combat attributes and opening up new tactical options. Combined with the sheer variety of skills—nearly a hundred, split between active and passive—the game gives players the freedom to experiment with builds and adapt strategies on the fly. The presence of items, equipment, and companion supports adds even more variety, encouraging trial and error as you discover effective synergies. Encounters are not trivialized by brute force; instead, timing, counters, and smart positioning can turn a losing battle into a decisive victory. This flexibility ensures that battles feel dynamic and rewarding, with a sense of personal expression in how you approach each challenge. Exploration ties seamlessly into the combat and narrative framework. The contained maps give each area a puzzle-like quality, asking you to consider which paths to unlock, when to retreat, and how to balance risk with progression. Because teleportation is accessible and map guidance is clear, there is little frustration in retracing steps, which keeps the pacing brisk without sacrificing discovery. At the same time, exploration carries narrative weight, since each step forward pushes back against the tide of corruption and reveals new layers of lore about the world. The gradual uncovering of secrets and hidden nodes creates a rewarding sense of uncovering a realm that has been eroded by time and malice. The story itself complements the mechanics rather than overshadowing them. Dew’s journey is one that emphasizes kindness as a strength, challenging the cynicism often found in darker fantasy narratives. The lore, with its references to wedge energy, lost flowers, and the spiritual undercurrents of the realm, builds a mystical yet tragic backdrop for the player’s actions. While seasoned RPG players may recognize familiar beats, the execution feels heartfelt rather than derivative. The game rewards those who take the time to piece together its details, making its world feel alive even within the constraints of a small production. Community reception has been overwhelmingly positive, and for good reason. On Steam, the game enjoys near-universal praise, with the vast majority of players commending its combat depth, aesthetic charm, and emotional story. That kind of acclaim is rare for a solo-developer project and speaks to the dedication behind its creation. Of course, there are some drawbacks. Minor technical issues, such as occasional bugs or achievement triggers, remind players of its indie limitations. Similarly, the scope of the world and narrative cannot match the scale of major RPG releases, and those expecting a sprawling, highly polished epic may find the content more modest than they hoped. Yet for what it sets out to achieve, the game is remarkably polished and cohesive. Journey of Realm: Dawn Dew ultimately succeeds because it knows its strengths and leans into them. It does not try to mimic grand RPGs with endless systems and massive worlds; instead, it crafts a focused, heartfelt experience that blends tactical combat, meaningful exploration, and a narrative grounded in sincerity. Its pixel art, layered mechanics, and thematic consistency create an experience that feels much larger than its indie framework would suggest. For players who enjoy turn-based strategy, rich but accessible lore, and the artistry of carefully crafted indie games, it offers a memorable journey that lingers long after the final battle. Graphics: Good, main char is cute, especially when you unlock the rabbit headwear. Wish she has more expressions. Gameplay mechanics: a bit complex with lots of skills and items, but I've finally found an awesome setup, applicable to any bosses, most of the rest I don't even use. Story: meh, translation is bad, mostly text-only, thus I don't care about any details, just know the story in general is enough for me Price: Super good for the content, even without any discount. TLDR: Worth your money, recommended

Awesome game. The game games around 20-25 hours to fully complete. So it is quite cheap in that regard. Multiple builds, multiple ways to play. Translation to English is alright! There's some stuff right now (very little) that is not translated but the Dev is fixing them!(I've been reporting them on discord)

A beautiful indie turn based metroidvania made by single person developer. The combat is fun (if you like turn based), there's tons of customization, and the artstyle is amazing. Not to mention, the regional pricing is very wallet friendly. Seriously, this game need more exposure. That aside, the game is not perfect, especially in the translation aspect, although if you can bear with it, everything can still can be understood without much problem. There's also some untranslated stuff here and there, which can be slightly annoying but it has no impact on gameplay.

This game is a well paced mix of combat and exploration, with a high amount of build customization and combat depth. It also comes with more content than it's price tag would suggest, so it's easy to recommend. Only thing to note is the translation is a bit iffy at times, but is still generally understandable.
