July 2025
Don't be fooled by me recommending this game, I actually have mixed feelings on it. I got this game late 2022 when it was on sale for around 15USD and found it really disappointing, it was pretty much the first game but more refined and little more added to it to justify the 2 in "Jurassic World Evolution 2." I got my playtime on this to 1.9hrs before I requested a refund, I didn't want it to go over 2hrs just by launching the client and loading any new/saved games. Decided to get it again almost three years later since it was on sale for 3USD to give it another try and here are my thoughts on it. For reference, I have no DLCs as of posting this review Gameplay and Mechanics Not much to say here really, JWE2 is a near exact clone of JWE1 for all intents and purposes, if you played the latter before then you played this. Even after not playing JWE1 again for many years I still noticed not much has changed when moving onto JWE2 when I first got it, and the same applies here. Game Modes This game has four game modes, the Campaign, Challenge, Chaos Theory, and Sandbox. This gives you four ways to play and you can go all in on one or two, or play a mix of all four for the fun of it. Personally I prefer Challenge and Chaos Theory, I enjoy the combination of challenge and progression they offer. Campaign The Campaign mode is the storyline for this game, taking place after the second film of the Jurassic World franchise (Fallen Kingdom) when dinosaurs are taken off the island and released into the wild. Basically you help Claire and Owen recapture the animals from various situations and try to keep them enclosed and safe in facilities. Honestly, I found the story to be very boring. I'm 60% through it and feel nothing from it, I don't feel excitement or satisfaction nor do I feel disappointed or displeased. It is a very whelming story. I wasn't expecting much from a park builder/management game but it just feels so dull. I reckon if you are a fan of the JW films then I suppose you will like it. But if you're like me who liked the original JP films and books then you won't get anything out of it. Sandbox Sandbox mode is the freeform mode, you can custome your game's settings and build your park in any way you want. Being a sandbox, this is a mode meant for fun and to achieve it in any way you want. Challenge Challenge mode basically has you build your park while following certain restrictions and guidelines. Other than that, you can build your park in any want (While under the restrictions and guidelines the game gives you, of course). Succeeding on these games is how you unlock some skins for your dinos, currently working on the Northwest USA map myself. If Sandbox is getting too boring for you then Challenge mode is a great way to keep yourself engaged and interested. Chaos Theory Chaos Theory offers to you narrative scenarios with elements taken from Challenge. Out of all of the game modes this is the one that grew on me the most, I was not expecting that. Chaos Theory has you play during important moments in the series' lore "but with a twist." You can go back to where it all started and actually make the original Jurassic Park succeed, you can actually go to the Jurassic Park Ampitheater referenced many times in the second film and make it operational, you can make run Jurassic World up to the events of the film (Bringing in the I. Rex) but not make it collapse, or you can return to Jurassic World after the events of the first JW film and get all the dinosaurs after the events of the movie. Honestly it's a really cool experience for the player if you are a fan of the JP films, JW films, or both. Final Thoughts Having gotten this game when it was on sale during the Summer Sale for 3USD, I rate it 9/10. Having first tried it in the past when it was on sale for 15USD, I rate it 6/10. If I were to go off full price (60USD), I rate it 3/10. I strongly recommend it while it's on sale for 3USD but anything more than that it is a waste. The core gameplay and mechanics are pretty much the same compared to the first game, so if you skipped that and went for JWE2 then I can see it being worth it for 15USD or even full price. But having played JWE1 myself, I found it to be way overpriced. As for the game modes themselves, I like them minus Campaign. I am having a lot of fun with Chaos Theory, currently alternating between the scenarios that take place in the first two JP films (Almost done with both) while progressing on a Challenge game (Northwest USA) and I'm enjoying the challenge. I may even pick up 2-3 of the DLCs since they are also on sale until next week. If you are considering trying JWE2 then I recommend doing so with the 3USD price tag, I see no reason to buy it when the price is higher than that. And with JWE3 coming out literally later this year, I see no reason to get this game even if it was on sale for 15USD. Alternatively, you could just skip this game entirely and wait for the third game once it drops if you really wanted to. Edit (Saturday - July 5 2025): Forgot to add something before posting my review. The World The in-game world and maps JWE2 offers you to build in are all beautiful, each map is visually appealing while also being unique in design and biome thanks to the diverse choices to pick from. My only complaint is that the maps are too small to build a proper park in. I understand it is too encourage the player to be creative in making sure every space has a purpose but I wish there was to expand the playable area in which you can play your park. It can be done through research such as researching a way to remove hazards ie you need to research "Mountain Landscaping" so you can remove rocks blocking your way to a new section of the map, basically a gameplay methoc to gatekeep you from expanding with an in-universe reason. Alternatively the game can take inspiration from the JP/JW mobile games and allows you to claim a new plot of land once you achieve getting a full star in your park's rating.

This game is cool because dinosaurs are cool. I recommend this game. The management is kinda eh and i wish you could put water dinos in the same area as a land dino but they need their own enclosure. I just want to see mosasaurus eat indominus like in the movie. BUT REALLY THE DINOS LOOK SO GOOD ON THE MAX GRAPHICS WHEN IT IS RAINING AND THE FIGHTS ARE BADASS AND DILOPHOSAURUS IS MY FAVORITE DINOSAUR!
