Mind Diver is an interesting game that wears its influences in plain sight. Literally, the covers for the games and movies are right there on a bookshelf early on. Obra Dinn, Her Story, Riley and Rochelle... and yet throughout the game I couldn't help but think of one game in particular that wasn't mentioned: To the Moon. Some other reviews say this isn't a puzzle game, it's a narrative game, but that's not really accurate. There certainly are puzzles throughout the entire game and they aren't throwaway at all. In fact, the entire plot about piecing together the broken memories of a person to discover what happened to her is built around the puzzles. Each memory you enter is fragmented so objects must be taken from other memories and slotted in to unlock more of the memory for you to experience. That said, it's certainly not a puzzle game like Obra Dinn or Her Story. There is a very linear plot and the puzzles are only truly there to force you to consider why things are happening the way they are. I highly doubt anyone will struggle for more than a few minutes with any particular memory hole and you certainly won't need any notetaking here. No, the draw here is absolutely the narrative and it is a good one. A woman reports her boyfriend as missing but is suffering severe and acute memory loss. My first thought was that this is a woman with Alzheimers that we are diving into but she is in her late 20's, struggling to hold onto her memories like they're a dream. What you discover is a personal story of life and grief that may not be profound, but is at least heartfelt and sincere in its portrayals. Just like To the Moon then, Mind Diver takes you on a brief but impactful story through the mind of a client, solving some puzzles and piecing together their past. Whether or not that story will leave an impact on you is likely something that no reviewer could ever tell you. It's going to depend on the person, and isn't that what good art is? I don't honestly know if I recommend this game to everyone but I can confidently say I won't regret having played it.

An absolutely fabulous little game! A bit light on the deduction, but makes up for it in the captivating mystery, stellar character writing and incredible voice acting. I really hope there's lots of sequels in the works because it was absolutely a blast to play.

This is a hard game to rate. I think if I was able to, I'd put it at neutral. The presentation is lovely, and the story feels very personal. The voice acting feels charming. But it's just so short. I think I was expecting maybe another two or three cases like the one in the game, and I'm left feeling a little put out for the price. The demo was almost a fourth of the game, and that feels a little like like I paid for even less. I almost came in under the refund time frame without trying, which feels... not the best. I love an indie developer, but pick this one up on sale, I think.

"Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason." Just wonderful. This wears its influences proudly on its sleeve (and literally features them in-game, too): The Return of the Obra Dinn, Her Story, Immortality... It also reminds me of Tacoma and Eternal Threads. In essence, if you like interactive narrative experiences that have you sifting non-chronologically through a series of vignettes in order to solve a mystery then you'll likely really like this too. Fantastic stuff.

It's an interesting piece of media, with veeery light puzzle game elements. While the story is very good, the voice acting doesn't 100% of the time keep up with the emotional tone, which is a shame since the audio contains the only acting in scenes created and populated with very rough 3D models. I thought the demo was short, but it's almost 1/4 of the game. The whole game is very short, and I finished it in 3 hours. I liked the game, so I'm not gonna say I feel robbed of 14€, but maybe pick this up when it goes on sale because I don't think it's worth it price.
