This will be a long one people, but what can I say, I love writing 😃 I don't know if developers are checking out reviews often, but I hope they will read this one. What a gem. I recognized this game name, because this is not a first game by this studio with this name, they also made a "New Star Grand Prix", a top down 2D racer in 2009, which I will write about a little bit later. Driving model is fantastic for an arcade racer. Although the game is full arcade, it's not straight up Mario Kart and you can easily spin if you overdo it, especially without traction control, which I always turn off. The tracks are not flat and have many small bumps and imperfecions like you would feel in a real car, they can destabilize your vehicle and cause you to spin/crash, they are quite realistic tbh, a BIG plus for that. Also the sparks effect from underneath the car is another neat detail. Cockpit cam is fantastic. I played in cockpit view, because even in arcade racers it just feels wrong to me to drive open wheel cars in chase cam. There is even a top down cam which is a nice "tribute" to the original New Star Grand Prix game. Little bit about the original game from 2009, because I think it has some elements that this current game can implement. It had clear star rating, which showed you which team has the fastest car currently and teams would improve or do worse over the seasons, the pace of the teams would mix up, which is completely missing from current game. There were driver transfers between teams, a casino and some small side activities. I forgot a lot of things, because I desperately tried to make this game work in Windows 11, but without any success, literally nothing works, including the virtual machine. If one of the devs will read this, would there be a posibility to bring this original 2009 game to Steam and make it compatible with modern systems? I loved playing it back then and it would be awesome to relieve this memory again. I even made car skins for 2010 season, still have them. PLEASE consider something like that, I sure many people would be willing to give it a go for even a small price. Or at least to release a small fix to make this game playable, because apart from menus, the game itself is unplayable. Coming back to the game i'm reviewing here, there are some things I don't like. It gets too repetitive after some time, it needs more side activities for your character like in the original 2009 game. Live Timing mini table seems to be innacurate a lot of times. It sometimes shows wrong differences between drivers, it kinda looks like the timing table is slow to catch up to the real difference on track. AI is often too aggressive, even when they're not angry at you (BTW. when you're their Nemesis, they will straight up crash into you if they have a chance, which is not necessarily bad in an arcade game like that). They would dive bomb in the smallest gap where is no place to overtake and will crash into you, sometimes in a very BS manner. They are much more tamer in the 80's and 90's cars, which are the slowest ones. For that reason I find the 80's and 90's the most pleasant to drive, because racing with AI in it has more clean racing. My personal list of things I would improve: Anti-aliasing - there is none of it currently, the edges look very rough and it would improve visibility and overall graphics tremendously. The game enigne and low poly graphics in it are not very demanding, so adding that should not have much impact on performance. That's the first thing I would add for sure. Replay - this one should be very easy to make, because already when you finish the race and sit in the race standings screen, the camera follows the cars and gives you tv-style replay cam. Let us watch the whole race replay please. Photo Mode - as a enjoyer of virtual photography I would like to see it implemented, but only after they implement anti-aliasing, because without it, it would be hard to produce good looking shots. Qualiyfying - shame that we always have to start at the back of the grid, but I get it as it being the arcade racer and only having 10 cars on the grid, however... ...Full GP Mode or Endurance Mode of some sort with 20 cars - that's where qualifying would make sense. You can already set a full gp length race in championship mode, but it's not the same. Minor and smaller improvements: Engine sounds - although they sound fine, I would make them more varied across eras. Working mirrors - self-explanatory, it would make wheel to wheel racing a lot better and make us be more aware of AI drivers divebombing... Working gauges in cockpit view - little neat thing, doesn't need to be super detailed. Request to go to pits button and radio button of some sort. More livery patterns - currently there's very little patterns to chose from, it's only like 3 of them per era, which is very little. Changing AI teams livery in-game and appearance of AI drivers I completed it fully, had a blast and I can really recommend it. I will monitor this game and will come back to it if/when there are significant new things added or changed.

Ok, this is the real deal: an arcade racer that is also extremely satisfying if you're more into simulation racing. This is also a game made by people who obviously care about racing - the presentation is flawless, and there are so many nice touches... very impressive work by the devs. It drives very well with a controller and, again, despite being an arcade game, it does reward proper driving, knowing when to brake and to turn, using your resources strategically. The AI is obviously limited, but they're fun to race against - they're not simply moving cones. The main drawback is the management layer, which gives useful perks but it's mostly very basic, without the hidden depth of the driving. Still, this is the perfect coffee-break game for people who like racing games. Highly recommended!

Sim features like pit stops, tyre wear and fuel management along with team management and a rival system in a career mode spanning 5 decades of F1 packaged in an accessible fun little retro arcade racer. What a gem.

For the old geezers: Do you remember the days when you would sit down and simply pick up a game without having to dive deep into the game mechanics behind it? For the yung'uns: Looking for a game that is easy to pick up and has the right feel between sim and arcade racing? New Star GP let's you dive right into the driver seat and - while simulating tyre grip, fuel load and much more - it simply feels so incredibly easy and forgiving, while still punishing you if you think you can go all *OutRun* or *Mario Kart* with it. It's a game that simply focuses on the fun while gaming, leaving out the more tedious parts for those days you don't want to simulate every tiny detail, dropping out of the race 2 laps before the finish due to a faulty front wheel suspension picked up on lap 43 while driving over a discarded milk shake. While I do enjoy realistic simulations a bunch, I also noticed the inner child in my celebrating a game that simply let's me have fun. Pure unbridled fun.

Expected Virtua Racing or Hot Shot Racing, but got far more. This is legitimately a great racing game that offers arcade appeal with enough depth to keep you going. It’s rare when it happens. These guys have focused on making a game and they did it. Bravo.
