A Great Game but Greatness has Already been Achieved No More Heroes 2 is a great game—but it’s not No More Heroes 1. And to be fair, that’s a nearly impossible bar to clear. NMH1 was what I’d call ‘lightning in a bottle’. No More Heroes 2 does a lot of things great. It smooths out the combat, the bosses are great and the OST slaps but, there is a lot in the game that falls short of the original as a sequel to something so great. Your Soul in Exchange for Convenience No More Heroes 2 starts you right in the action, You're fighting a boss right away as soon as you press start on the title screen. This will be the design philosophy for the rest of the game going forward. What I mean by this is that in No More Heroes 1, after every ranked battle (story mission), you would have to grind out money to pay a fee to enter the next ranked battle. In No More Heroes 2 this is no longer part of the game and you will find yourself not doing any of the side content in order to progress through the game since you can just queue up the next story mission right away. With that there is almost no reason to actually do any of the various side job mini games which have been boiled down to NES style renditions of these part time jobs that originally took place in the 3D world in No More Heroes 1 which can either be a good thing or bad thing depending on who you are, my personal favorite side job and the only one I like being the steakhouse mini-game (Man the Meat). The open world has been gutted in place of a mission select screen that acts as a fast travel which further removes the players attachment to the world. Overall I felt a general lack of immersion to this game compared to the first one because almost everything here that isn't the main missions literally have no reason to exist anymore aside from the fact that "side jobs" and "revenge missions"/"fight missions" were a thing in the first game. Plus the main missions have their own problems too! Great Bosses Defended by Clown Cars in a Silent Circus No More Heroes 2 contains 15 great boss battles but, you'll be wondering when you're going to get to them while fighting enemies that just keep spawning over, and over, and over and over again. Half of these enemies just come out of cars that just drive in from out of nowhere. A few guys will come out of the car and you'll clear them out. Then 5 other guys will come out of the same car! It's like clown cars were in style when this game came out. Some of these combat sections lack music entirely so you'll be awkwardly mowing down around 50 dudes in one room in complete silence until you get to the next room which actually does have level music for some reason. This is a really strange decision because some of the tracks in this game actually go crazy like they're really good! My favorite being "Toothpaste" which plays near the end of the game. [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wPYsm8OEQY] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wPYsm8OEQY Midway through the game there are these levels that have you play as another character and they include platforming sections that punish you by making you walk through the entire level all over again, all while controlling worse than the bike in NMH1. I get they wanted to switch things up a bit but that section was a sore spot for me. A Boss Rush Worthwhile No More Heroes 2 is still worth your time. The boss fights are great, the music (when it's there) is pretty good and the story is still your typical Suda 51 fare despite it not being magnum opus level like NMH1 or Killer 7. The game is great if you like fighting bosses while thinking you look cool doing it! It's a flawed sequel but still a great game. Just don't expect lightning to strike twice and don't expect to care about anything between the boss fights. Except for the steak cooking minigame, the cat training, and the bullet hell minigame. The fat cat was the highlight of the game for me.

I love the No More Heroes franchise, but I'll start off by saying that this is a flawed port. It's not bad, but there are many present issues. The game can freeze, crash, and some of the achievements are broken. It's unfortunate, because issues aside, this game is still pretty darn good. The story follows the events of the first game, with Travis Touchdown returning to Santa Destroy. Travis will encounter some old faces, and his protégé, Shinobu, is even playable for a bit. No More Heroes 2 improves on some of the mechanics of the first game, but also does quite a few things worse. The combat is still pretty good, there's no longer ranking fees for continuing through the story, the graphics look better than the first game, the story is still quite outlandish, and fast travel makes for a delightful option. Improvements aside - the side missions aren't quite as fun as they could be, I would have liked to have the option to free roam around Santa Destroy, the final boss is pretty lame, and the other bosses are well-designed, but seem much simpler to fight. The game is still worth a solid playthrough. It's short, but it still is quite an enjoyable experience. I'll definitely return to 100% the game if they fix the achievements. Some final thoughts: - You can now interact with your cat, Jeane, to try and get her into shape. - Travis still doesn't wipe after using the toilet. - You can now dual wield beam katanas. Awesome. EDIT: No More Heroes fans - rejoice! The achievements have now been fixed.

As someone who played NMH 3, I think this game is way better, It's easier than the first game however, but the artstyle looks a little better, I kinda of like the minigames being retro styled makes its really enjoyable, still a decent game whatsoever

Play on Windows 7 compability mode (and use 4GB patch to just in case) or you'll crash, a lot. This one feels like it's being random just for the sake of being random. The difficulty is just making enemies damage sponge, and that'll always sucks. The combat is a bit slow, but you get used to it. The mini-games from side jobs are nice. The ost is amazing.
