reviewing now that the pc port is finally in a good state between no more heroes 1 and 2, nmh1 is most definitely the better game, but nmh2 is a game i replay way more often due to the simple fact that it's a lot more fun. big rant about the combat at the bottom just in case no one cares, but anyway onto the good stuff combat is much improved, see rant for more details but the tl;dr is you have more options, lock-on is more responsive, there are more kinds of enemies to fight and some weird, niche bits of travis's moveset serve as a cherry on top. picking enemies up off the ground and finishing them off with a jump attack is super satisfying, and the excessive degree to which you can pummel them for cash is hilarious. certain combos lift them off the ground and leave them open for finishers, and the way the camera angles frame the movement and action is unlike any game i've ever played. i miss masafumi takada's music, but the collaborative punk rock soundtrack in this game might just have it beat. it oozes soul and craziness, and i can't think of a better fit for the game, i listen to it on a regular basis. the visual style is similar but surprisingly different, mostly in a good way, although travis's expressions in particular can look a little off sometimes. most of the time though its look is just as iconic as the first game's. a lot of people have beef with the story in this game and yeah, i totally get why, on the surface it's very inconsistent with the direction of the first game. i like it in spite of that, because while it isn't an entirely logical direction to go in, it still has plenty to say beneath the surface and strong theming that's actually quite in line with the "punk" vibe the soundtrack goes for, with plenty of in-your-face commentary about consumerism, fame, emptiness, breaking free from control and the importance of individual life. overall i certainly warmed up to this game over time, and i think regardless of what you might've heard about it, it's a must-play if you enjoyed the first game. it sits right up there with nmh1 as a classic in its own right. || !! RANT BELOW, CONTAINS STRONG OPINIONS !! || the combat improvements seem to be sorely overlooked by people who either just mash through the game without trying to learn and master its quirks, or people who watched youtube video essays and took their criticisms as objective. yeah it's a fact that this game has more enemies with more health that can knock you down if you're caught off-guard, but it's also a fact that, compared to the first game, you have many more ways to instantly kill enemies, hit many of them at once, maintain your flow with long combos that move you across arenas to avoid attacks, and ways to kill enemies without deathblows and maintain a speedy, freeform combat flow. too many enemies? group them up and use peony to cut through the crowd (but be mindful of guns), pick stragglers off with the jump or dash attacks to stay mobile big tanky enemies? kite the fodder near them and angle your deathblows to hit them too, or punch/kick them into a wall for easy stuns getting knocked down too much? control your combos and movement to safely avoid attacks, these attacks all have clear telegraphs and many of them actually just knock you away instead of knocking you down completely don't play this game like you played nmh1; you can't just go into dark side whenever you want, you need to be flowing between attack chains and utilizing your jump/dash attacks, using the level layout to your advantage, kiting enemies to make things manageable, and experimenting with your beam katanas (you have i frames while swapping katanas!) learning and utilizing all this made the last level one of the most fun times i've ever had with an action game, and made me appreciate this game so much more than i used to, i hope others can give it another shot as well

I love the No More Heroes franchise, but I'll start off by saying that this is a flawed port. It's not bad, but there are many present issues. The game can freeze, crash, and some of the achievements are broken. It's unfortunate, because issues aside, this game is still pretty darn good. The story follows the events of the first game, with Travis Touchdown returning to Santa Destroy. Travis will encounter some old faces, and his protégé, Shinobu, is even playable for a bit. No More Heroes 2 improves on some of the mechanics of the first game, but also does quite a few things worse. The combat is still pretty good, there's no longer ranking fees for continuing through the story, the graphics look better than the first game, the story is still quite outlandish, and fast travel makes for a delightful option. Improvements aside - the side missions aren't quite as fun as they could be, I would have liked to have the option to free roam around Santa Destroy, the final boss is pretty lame, and the other bosses are well-designed, but seem much simpler to fight. The game is still worth a solid playthrough. It's short, but it still is quite an enjoyable experience. I'll definitely return to 100% the game if they fix the achievements. Some final thoughts: - You can now interact with your cat, Jeane, to try and get her into shape. - Travis still doesn't wipe after using the toilet. - You can now dual wield beam katanas. Awesome. EDIT: No More Heroes fans - rejoice! The achievements have now been fixed.

As someone who played NMH 3, I think this game is way better, It's easier than the first game however, but the artstyle looks a little better, I kinda of like the minigames being retro styled makes its really enjoyable, still a decent game whatsoever

Play on Windows 7 compability mode (and use 4GB patch to just in case) or you'll crash, a lot. This one feels like it's being random just for the sake of being random. The difficulty is just making enemies damage sponge, and that'll always sucks. The combat is a bit slow, but you get used to it. The mini-games from side jobs are nice. The ost is amazing.

Fun game but the game is shorter than expected, that is probably the result of losing the Hub world and being able to immediately teleport to the objectives. It's not really terrible but personally it's not the right move
