once again - another great game released this month with mixed reviews all over the place. heres the facts: the truth - its a great game that is proof of concept. the next iteration of fps soulslike needs to take from this and add to it. for that reason, i am excited to see where it goes from here difficulty - different gamers will experience different things as far as difficulty goes, but objectively - the game is harder in the 1st/3rd than the latter 2/3 of the game. the boss fights are interesting and fun, but not the hardest ive seen. overall this is on the easier end of souls games. if someone complains the game is too hard, they probably stink at parries/dodges and have bad aim. youll be fine if you can time a button and point n click. combat - is very rewarding feeling, especially if you plan to utilize parries mainly, which is by far the most effective attack for most of the game. magic stuff will also be very strong but moreso in the 2nd half of the game. story - is fine - some environmental storytelling, some solid side quests, and solid writing/voice acting music - is great, vibes are on point graphics - are great stability - youll experience a couple of fps drops to the 60s-70s on a decent system running DLSS quality. i personally didnt find it effected gameplay at all. it seemed to happen around lanterns mostly. the game also froze a couple times when i hit massive crits with the blunderbuss. again, nothing that ruins the game. i did not experience falling thru the floor or anything, but i did get stuck on some forest geometry once. in this case, you just pause and "surrender" to die, then you just go pick up ur souls. it would be nice if they could add an UNSTUCK button like Witchfire has when this happens, so we dont have to be punished if we find ourselves stuck. personal opinion - overall solid game. I wish they would add the ability to have more than one save slot. and i also wish for difficulty increase, or a new hardcore mode of some sort where the game gets a bit tougher. i did find the beginning quite challenging, but as soon as i got the rapier and upgraded the pistol, i felt pretty unstoppable for the rest of the game.

Amazing game! i only have three really big issues myself. 1.) once you beat the game thats it, nothing else to do. add either a new game plus OR make it where you can take a side quest from lucjan to refight bosses. 2.) make the volenteer enemy types a bit easy to see for parries. 3.) i would love a map to help me keep track of where i have been

Valor Mortis is a good game in its core with several flaws. The good: - The setting is fantastic. - They nailed the difficulty. - Runs smoothly on Linux/Proton. The not so good: - The hitboxes are all over the place and need improvement (this is a major issue). - I don't think the first-person view has any positives as the enemy movement-variety has to be very limited as you can only see what is in front of you. - I personally despite platforming/parkour element in a souls game. First-person makes this worse. - The world looks nice, but the map itself is mainly linear. Never got lost, never did I not know where to go, - I don't think the game has a lot of replayability as there are clearly OP abilities and ambers. I do not think the setting and first-person view is enough to innovate on the souls-formula. However, for a price tag of $35 (bundle price) I can recommend the game.

It's alright. It's a bit like if Lies of P gameplay had a baby with Dishonored aesthetics but the baby was not as good as either. For the price it's probably worth it if you're looking for some souls parryslop. It's got the linear chapter structure of Lies of P, the gameplay is largely parry focused and you only chip bosses down if you just melee. It's got perfect parry that destroys enemy posture setting them up for a critical. You take chip damage if you just land a block but you can recover HP lost that way if you attack. It's basically Lies of P in first person. The issue is the game suffers in the enemy variety department, in the first 3 hours of the game you will see 95 percent of the enemies you be fighting for the remaining 12 hours it feels like. The enemies you do fight are mostly well designed, but the variety is just low. The bosses are the highlight of the game (for the most part) but there really aren't that many and overall they're way too easy. if you played the beta and enjoyed the boss in chapter 1 in that being tough, you're going to be disappointed because no boss in the game is anywhere near as hard as that one was and that one wasn't even that hard. The weapons you get are decent enough, no complaints about them other than that there's a grand total is 9 weapons/abilities in the game. 3 melee, 3 ranged and 3 magic. There's a skill tree but you're either going to build for magic, build for melee, build for health or some combination of these three things. Basically build variety is low, but the game still is decent to play despite that, it's closer to Sekiro than LoP in this regard. Graphically the game looks pretty good, if a little bit too dark at times. Performance wise it's a little shaky but I am on a 5080 and turned on 4x Framegen so I was stuck at 360 fps most of the time, but there were a few areas where I could tell framegen was doing some heavy lifting. It's priced like a double A title and I would say that's fair, it feels like a double A title. I'm giving it a recommend because I think it's worth a play and I'd like to see the devs do a second bigger project in the same vein.
