The game does not deserve a mostly negative rating, the game design is very deliberate and interesting. I went in thinking it was going to be a silly little hack and slash game but turned out to be surprisingly deep. I love how each enemy has a different way they must be dealt with, you must engage with ALL the mechanics to be successful, especially at the hardest difficulties. Like when I tried the charge attack against the melee guys and it worked quite well, most enemies are like that, like a combat puzzle. I feel like a lot of the mainstream opinions about this game are from people who are having skill issues because they aren't willing to engage with the game and writing off the game's very specific mechanics as "janky" or "clunky", because they couldn't just mindlessly hack and slash their way through like any other game now-a-days. A Movie-Game this is not, and I highly recommend it for people who like a nice challenge. Solid 8/10, give it a try!
There's a lot of jank, you can tell they either didn't have the resources or expertise to polish everything. The menu-ing is really unintuitive on KB+M. The story seems to make no sense if you don't properly pay attention. There's random minigames happening in between missions which are weirdly high quality, but completely out of place. The difficulty is all over the place with some legit tough encounters randomly sprinkled in. Random anime cutscenes are suddenly playing. The loading screen is a literal meme reference. Your character casually strolls into cutscenes with her face completely caked in blood. MC has a really thick german accent, which turns out is entirely in lore. All-in-all this game's a fever dream, but there's something special underneath it all. The combat is genuinely really fun and well designed. There's an insane amount of different executions. Many animations are very well done, even if a bit jank. The gunplay is solid and they even added skins for your gun, which I'm sure were very expensive on the CS2 marketplace. Hell, even most bosses are really good. Overall, game's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peak.
The weirdest game in a while. This game feels like an experiment in weirdness and reminds of some classic 'bad' games like 'deadly premonition'. The good: - The game is very strange and unusual, you wont play something like this from any AAA publisher. - The gameplay combines sword and gunplay together in an interesting way which is very unusual. - The story has its funny moments. The bad: - The graphics are not great. - The music ranged wildly from good to outright bad. - The gunplay isnt great, nowhere near as good as the swordplay. - The story is interesting but disjointed. The ugly: - Gameplay while interesting can get on your nerves with the camera being especially buggy. - The final levels of the game pad a lot with throwing enemies at you all the time. In conclusion this is a game that I recommend to anyone who enjoys unusual games that might not be mainstream, I think the game was fun for what it is.
Upfront the game is, what other reviews said, pretty janky, However it has a pretty fun aesthetic, hilarious action sequences and is overall pretty quirky, it reminds me of Suda51 games like No More Heroes. Wish we got more games willing to take chances on something out of the norm like this. Also despite the jank the game ran incredibly smoothly was genuinely surprised. The Crane game was incredibly addicting too. :)
It isn’t a bad game. It’s also not a good game. It exists in a strange, awkward limbo somewhere between “almost” and “why though?” The shooting feels off, like the guns are mildly annoying you’re using them. The melee combat wants to be something like Ninja Gaiden, but never quite gets there, which is extra funny considering this was made by former NG developers. You had one job, lads. And yet… I kind of liked it? The story is dumb in a fun way, the soundtrack slaps, and the cyberpunk setting is stylish enough to carry a lot of the game’s shortcomings. The voice acting is bad, not “early Resident Evil” bad but bad enough that it loops back around to being charming. You’ll cringe, then laugh, then accept it as part of the experience. Do not buy this at full price. But if you see it on sale for dirt cheap and want a janky, uneven, oddly lovable action game? Yeah. Why not.
