Everslaught, what can I say, it's a dream come true, so to speak, as far as fast games in VR are concerned. I don't know of any other game that brings this speed of the popular fps genre to VR. You fight with sword, grappling hook and shotgun in constant combination and it works so smoothly that you feel like you've never done anything else. The beginning of the game is very leisurely and familiarizes you with the controls. But one thing is immediately noticeable, you move fast, with dash even faster. Early on you get your first sword and try it out on the first enemies. These are some kind of zombies. There regular types which grab at you and larger ones wield axes. When you kill one you'll get blood capsules, which become important later in the game. The combat system is not fully physics-based like perhaps in Hellsplit or Blade & Sorcery, but rather designed for fast, action-packed fps play. Over time, you get to know a mystical, huge temple complex, where somehow only skeletons remain from the former civilization, who apparently didn't even have time to leave the ancient city in time. Some of them are still kneeling in the dust, worshipping gods, and it seems as if something very sudden has happened. The background is not yet explained here. Don't be fooled by these first minutes of the game, it doesn't reveal anything about the roguelike principle, which only comes into play later, and then it gets really fast and action-packed. The graphics in this first chapter (there will be three later) are impressive, huge stone gates open as if they were made for giants, within the temple city there are winding staircases, wall protrusions and bazaar-like places until you reach the underworld and there you stay almost for the rest of the game in this early version to make so-called blood runs to improve your skills. Early on you see a huge tower far away in the dusty background, just a glimpse of what the game will offer later on. The color tones are always yellowish, redish, brownish, I sometimes wished for a bit more variety, but the details, nice textures make up for it. Someone also compared this prelude of the game with a chapter in Diablo 2, but I can't remember, but there are Diablo vibes. Already on the way to the underworld you open chests and wooden boxes in which sometimes there are new swords or just gold. The properties and hit values are diced. If you are lucky, you find a better weapon than before and have better chances in close combat. Everywhere are also destructible clay pots, which sometimes also contain gold for the store. In addition, in the course of the grappling hooks, with which you can quickly swing up on sun symbols that are distributed everywhere, or even approach enemies to fight them further with sword and shotgun. This system works very well and brings a great flow to the game. Combining grappling, dash and stabbing feels badass in this game! Once at the Goddess of Blood you stick your hand into something spiky :9 and then the endless search for new blood (XP) begins, which you get from killed enemies. Currently there are 20 skill point levels you can invest in Rogue, Vanguard and Warrior to become stronger and stronger in your selected style. When you enter the Lair, your underground hub, you'll find yourself in a large hall which leads to the pit and also provides weapons storage with 5 slots, a workshop, simple store and upgrade option. To get to the next blood run you unlock the pit with your gauntlet and jump into the endless deep abyss of evil. Everywhere you see that strange mixture of Steampunk and pyramids with gurgling pipes and gears which adds to the mystical atmosphere. Each blood run is procedurally diced and so each run plays a little differently. With each Level-Up the number of enemies increases and they are harder to kill, but you'll find also stronger weapons with magical abilities. Later, dangerous runners, suicide bombers, archers and the ultra-mean summoners come into play. The latter can spawn new enemies and in large numbers, kill them as fast as possible!! At about Level 10 the game really unfolds its strengths, super fast dash and grappling hook movement, swinging up floors and fighting hordes of zombies, feels a bit like Doom Eternal meets Just Cause. You will also experience end arenas with tons of enemies which try to overwhelm you. Just if you defeat all of the you'll return alive to the Lair from the current blood to grab your reward from a purple chest. Maybe there is a rare sword with magic abilities in it.. The speed in this game is really unique in VR. I saw reviews from people who played the game about 10 min and gave a thumbs down, because they complained about the lack of melee physics and boring gameplay.. that's very sad, because the game deserves more attention and of course a bit more patience to see the full game! The graphics, the controls, the cool soundtrack, it's still in full development, the devs are super communicative and nice people.. please give them the support, really deserved! There will be two completely new chapters with one boss each later on. They work also already on a Diablo 2 like skill tree which should have decisive influence on the game. Hopefully a first glimpse end of this year. Development continues till end of 2022. The current state of the game is already impressive and it's a lot of fun. For me it's a hidden indie gem of VR and I would vote it as game of the year in his genre.
