Game seems to be abandoned from what other people have said, though there's still a good amount of content to enjoy. I managed to beat it in around 10 hours across about 15 runs and beat all 7 bosses. There's shortcuts like in Dark Souls but they kinda feel useless except to backtrack later in the game when you need to go find healing. If I try to use them to skip ahead to say the 5th boss then I'm just not strong enough to survive. Once you finish the tutorial area there's no checkpoints, if you die you have to start over, though there are some upgrades you can unlock like different classes, weapons, and abilities. It functions like a rouge-like with the progression through each run where every so often you pick up a new weapon or piece of armor and have to decide if it's better than what you have. If this game continues development I definitely want to see a checkpoint put at the current endpoint with some level appropriate gear given.
Awesome game, had so much fun with it! Even in its current state, I think it could count as a full game, so I don't really understand why people leave negative reviews. Yes, it has some minor, annoying parts, but who cares if 99% of the game is already fun. People also complain like it's a dead game, while every trimester there is an update. Yes, communication is a bit bad, e.g. the roadmap on the page is outdated, it still mentions a 2025 Q3 milestone not met, so it could feel like the game is not progressing. While there are obviously frequent updates here and also on Discord. TLDR.: It's already fully worth it, I'm glad that I didn't wait for the full release, and the game is still being developed, feel free to join the Discord server! :)
Great game. I wish they would let you keep your gear after defeating the campaign instead of starting over with nothing. As many have said the random camera movement is annoying as hell. The archer and beast tamer class are insanely overpowered compared to the knight, mage, and barbarian class, warlock class seems useless. I don't like random loot, if they change anything I wish it was this... even if I have to save up to buy the gear I want make it that. Overall great game with 3-4 bigger issues.
Cons: I suspect character descriptions were AI generated Pros: holy cows the game is skill based. Yeah, the first three hours aren't giving a good enough impression of what this game has in store and I think a lot of people will get a refund because of how little content the game seems to have. It's sad, because heretical is a true to it's spirit soulslike that had let me relive the experience of learning enemy patterns and getting gud, and it's maps are genuinely awesome and interconnected. It's mechanically clunky and a lot of scripts are broken, but somehow it doesn't sour the overall experience. Some problems with controls are because of early access, but a surprising amount of them are skill issues. I give it 8 Nito's out of 10, ravelord is proud
