April 2026
I absolutely adored the humor, art, and identity this game has to offer. It has flaws but I have no regrets playing the game and I highly recommend it. Is it the most perfect RPG ever played? No. I think approaching it expecting such a thing misses the charm the game has. The characters and visual style of the game made me smile. Every time I faced something frustrating I would immediately see something that would cheer me up again. If you're looking for something surreal and something with quirky wario-ware minigames you'll have a blast here. Negatives (spoilered because spoilers): The ending does feel a little rushed towards the end. Trying to quickly wrap things up in the end. I did love the idea of joining BusDriver or staying at town. When I looked up both endings though I feel like I didn't get much out of either choice. Even a small cutscene at the end or even a photo after the credits of what our main character is doing after either ending would've been nice. Also some of those last few areas were very maze like. Blurgh. I wish the party members were used more. If that makes sense? I like having locations where we are put with just one of them to see how they play battle wise but I feel like we only have a limited time to have them all at our full play. I know why they weren't in the final boss (besides narratively I suppose) but the fact they're not there plus the fact they don't have much impact in the ending makes me not surprised that many critics label them as thinly done. I do genuinely enjoy these characters and I wish I had a opportunity to use them in battle more and see more cutscenes with them! I love the one on one cutscene you have depending on the employee you 'choose to hire' at the start. I wish I had more of that stuff! I wish Boss and Big Baby had a little more to chew on. I feel like we got almost there with Big Baby and seeing the damage they do but I frankly don't know why they latched to Boss of all characters. I wish I saw more of Boss to be honest, we see he's a jerk at the start but I wish we got to see even more of that! Not just him being at the start and end. I want to really feel how much of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss and person he is. There is a lot of battles where the game kindof stalls. They usually signify by not showing you a enemy's health bar in the battle but even then it's still a bit disappointing. It loses the 'Oomph' that happens when it's done only one. I assumed it was somewhat jokingly harping on undertale based on the reference the Final Boss gives - which I did like - but eh. I read some people felt minigame fatigue but I personally did not. Positives (spoilered again.) For some people I suppose the humor isn't for them but for me I loved it. Like the scene where You destroy the first boss with crudely drawn quick time events. Even better when his minions come to fight you, fuse, start beating you up, only for the silly weird character Dolus to absolutely destroy them after proclaiming 'nobody hurts my friends' . Weird but I kindof like that they keep bringing up that guy you murdered at the start. It haunts your main character in both comical and non-comical ways. The scene where you and BusDriver are talking and he just quietly shows up for a second and disappears comes to mind. BusDriver just kindof going 'that was odd...anyway what was I saying'. The visual style of the game! It OOZES charm with every corner and location and boss and npc. I love that I didn't even question the multi-colored npcs because I thought it was a visual quirk genuinely . From Brightside trying to best you in combat with his absurd minigames and getting frustrated when you wallop him to the different art styles packed in each minigame and side game. I especially LOVE the areas where the world becomes distorted and glitchy. It looks like work in progress game areas. The shaders they use in these sections really pull of that look too. The game has a decent amount to explore and find! The music is also wonderful in this game! From searching for Goblins, Toilets, and Trashcans .

This game is quite something. A glorious little passion project. I'm glad to have experienced it. Kind of annoying the market only opens while I'm working but y'know, you win some you lose some.

I absolutely loved Knuckle Sandwich and believe it to be equal to games such as Undertale or Deltarune. Everything from the soundtrack to the battle system kept me hooked. Also, each character has a quirky personality that doesn't make them feel like cardboard cutouts and genuinely had me smiling. All in all, I can't wait to see what Andy Brophy cooks up next.

Look I haven't finished the game yet (27% through according to my save file) and I will be honest; if the first thing you look for in an rpg is story you're gonna find the game fairly lacking. However, the soundtrack, art direction, and most importantly, the extremely fun and creative combat more than make up for that. Also even if the plot feels deliberately derailed from the jump and is generally maybe a bit too surreal and definitely a lot too unfocused, the game is still funny and witty like any good quirky Earthbound-inspired jrpg should be. I'm a sucker for Warioware and if you are too, you're gonna have nothing but blast after blast working your way through this title.

The most authentic knuckle sandwich i've ever tasted! I love weirdness of everything and how surreal it all feels, and the microgames are sooo fun!! As a fellow Aussie I'm also loving all the references to things (Aus Postbox, Magpies in the music outside the Job Centre, even little things like the parking signs or bike lanes). The music is stunning, gameplay is impeccable. 11/10 Game
