In it's current form, this game has a solid foundation and is quite addictive. A roguelite and mecha combination can really go a long way, I just don't think it's quite there yet. I highly recommend it as is though I think some improvements should be made. Camera work is probably the biggest downside to this game. Mecha battles -- especially as the Japanese tend to design it -- are fast and rely heavily on swift engagement and visual information. Vas Labor in this game have brutal AI and basically use the same combo strings you do. The top-down camerawork in this game makes it very difficult to cash in on enemy downtime when you can't see them. It is also frustrating that there is not way to disable Labor targeting specifically. When you have auto-target on, sometimes even with Mecha priority installed, rank-and-file Labor steal a lot of your camera focus, further worsening this issue. Bosses are kinda... meh? They're extremely cool design-wise, but they need to be more dangerous. I think the AI scaling for Vas Labor is quite well-done. Outside of a few times where they get caught shadow-boxing above you, they felt somewhat correct for how they scale to your level. Most weapons work well on them you just have to be patient and wait for the right openings. Only thing I can say is that if you can't burst them in one window, their Stun window is quite low pathetic even -- you barely get any damage in. I hope the AI can be refined to be challenging, but without denying the player any good solutions when battling them. Now, for the chip system. Easily the greatest part of this game. It is absolutely engrossing the things you can do with this system. That said, I think some chips are very overtuned: - Samidare slash is easily the most broken chip in the entire game. This chip alone eliminates any sense of difficulty outside of getting one-shot by Vas Labor. Slap a few Wide-Slashes on it and you can dominate anything that isn't the boss fight. Samidare slash doesn't need 8 ranks, it needs more like 4, or 3. - Enhanced Suction is almost 1 for 1 with Samidare. Gravity cannons were already solid enough on their own with their high damage ticks. Max ranks on this and gravity res put Gravity cannons into pure overdrive. Only thing it doesn't annihilate are bosses due to them also having gravity immunity. this combo guarantees you will have a fairly easy experience. Either nerf the damage tick rate of gravity cannons by a small amount or "further restrict" ranks on Suction. What do I mean by "further restrict"? The chip system promises a fairly good power fantasy. But, if you grind a lot early on, it is very easy to surpass the early/late-game scaling. What I suggest is to add progress conditions allowing access to further ranks of the chips. You would only have access to certain ranks, but then unlock more ranks. This allows you to pay more attention to how each weapon build match up to their tiers. But, not all builds are made equal. Heavy Machinery needs to be buffed, or have late-game parts you can unlock for better stats. I have not yet become forklift-certified in this game and it is disappointing. You may think I'm joking, but I'm not. I must have my forklift power fantasy. Satiate me. 9/10

Cute mecha roguelite with plenty of parts and upgrades to grind for in a short and simple gameplay loop. Definite pickup on sale and still acceptable base price. The good: -Plenty of different weapon combinations and upgrades to keep things fresh. Ranged or melee builds both have their strengths. -Fluid movement and good controls. I've seen complaints about the camera, but it can be rotated easily if it's an issue, which it very rarely is. -Quick progression so you don't feel like you're grinding the early levels forever just to get somewhere. The less good: -The chip system isn't all that intuitive. There are several chips that I never did get to do the thing they said they should. In a run, your HP will suddenly drop because your helper bot picked up a chip offscreen. There is also a pretty low ceiling for the number of chips you can install vs total available, so while you can have a melee weapon and a ranged weapon, your chips have to prioritize one or the other for best effect. -The mech parts system is fine and scratches the collector itch, but it's irritating to find a cool weapon for the left arm but not be able to equip 2 because you haven't found the right arm version. There are so many filler parts. I happened to collect the highest HP torso and legs pretty early and didn't realize it, so the rest of the torsos were just meh. -There's a big emphasis on collecting lore and unlocking different heads and bodies for your pilot, but the story is very simple and your pilot is usually in a mech or too small to see, so you don't really see the body anyway. It also keeps mech 6 on display while you're customizing your pilot, so you can have a weapon blocking your view unless you fiddle with the camera. The ungood: -This oversight needs its own section. You can customize 6 different mechs but only have one chip loadout, so while you can have some preset mechs to try different ranged vs melee builds, you have to go back and fiddle with your extensive chip loadout if you want to switch from ranged to melee perks, but the chip options are extensive, so it takes a while to switch them. Even just having 3 mechs and 3 chip loadouts would make more sense than how they did it.

At first glance, I think it's hard to understand what this game is going for. But once I clicked with it, I was so sad to burn through it as fast as I did! It hits a lot of the right rougelite qualities I look for and getting mech parts was always a bit of a rush. It has one moment where the challenge takes a steep step upwards, but once you're able to surmount that, the rest of the game proved to be a breeze, for me at least. I would love to see what this team could do in a sequel, as the second half of the game felt like time was running out for them and they had to get it done, rather than realize a full vision. I'll definitely be watching to see what their next release is! Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys roguelites, and it was honestly nice that it was a 20 hour game for me, rather than something that ate up a bunch of my time. I would have probably played it for longer if there had been more content though!

tl;dr: Extremely good musou game, complete with actually good ranged options and such. Has a very good permanent upgrade system which will gate your progress somewhat, but rather than just by 'number go up', your progression will speed up as you specialize into a playstyle you like. VERY MUCH worth the price. The dev learned a lot from their last game (which is also worth picking up, by the way) and made combos improve on level up rather than being customized. This sounds bad at first glance, but this developer is GREAT at designing combos. The customization is still there in weapon choice, upgrade choice (since you have a limited capacity for upgrades), and even to some extent in armor choice (though the differences are slightly fewer there). Basically every weapon on both Labor & Arms are great to use. Not being able to draw on historical figures for characters like Samurai Bringer actually seems to have made the game much more interesting, and the levels, while somewhat repetitive, are so beautiful and well-designed it doesn't really matter. The music is, as per the previous game, not super great, but it's not bad either. Definitely would reccomend putting on your own music, though, it's pretty relaxing to smash through thousands of enemies and mechs while your favorite tunes are going. The story is good, not great, but it makes the game a little more fun - many of the gameplay mechanics have reasons to exist in-universe, and like 70% of them aren't super contrived. I was kind of doubtful about the colors of your character affecting your armor against different-colored attacks, but after playing some it turns out this is sort of an optional mechanic - there are permanent upgrades which increase/decrease the strength of the color-armor effect, so you can adjust it to what feels right. Fun to mess with, but not required. Meta-progression is much more natural than in the dev's last game. Leveling up your core stats lets you install more and more permanent upgrades which persist between runs. The variety of skills is kind of insane, and due to the limited space, it becomes quite fun to specialize into your own unique build with whatever weapon you prefer, and then stack relevant effects to make it even more fun. I do think it's a little too hard to get blueprints for new mech parts, as for some reason most of them are gated behind the third main level of the game, which has kind of an insane difficulty spike (although I think this is to sort of nudge the player into specializing their build rather than focusing on a generalized play-style which gets through the earlygame easily). It's also very expensive to unlock them at least compared to other upgrades, but since you can sell excess copies of upgrades you already have, this is less of an issue the more you play. Definitely worth the time & cost of admission. Early-game is a little slow, but it speeds up after ~1 hour, which is not nearly as bad as some games I've played. Works on Steam Deck, albeit not as well as on PC. Would recommend setting the resolution in the settings to 1080p, the pixel filter doesn't look great on Deck resolution. Still runs fine with a bit of tweaking though. Keep in mind that you can only change graphics settings from the main menu, so keep that in mind.
