Enjoyed this more than expected. A mixed bag in terms of overall quality but I think it shows a lot of promise for a higher-budget sequel. Pros: - Atmosphere is absolutely great and carries a lot of the game. Graphics are good. - Heavy, weighty combat with a more cinematic-style camera is unique and I enjoyed the style a lot. Hard to stress how much flair this game has due to the fantastic camera work. - Menu and UI design is fantastic, and shows that a lot of love went into the game. - All the weapons were interesting to use, and had good animation work. - The shell mechanic was an interesting way to add build diversity without a stats upgrade system, and led to a more interesting upgrade path. - The Familiarity system with items was a great addition to a genre where players are usually hesitant to use consumables. Cons: - While the harden mechanic makes sense for this slow, deliberate combat system - and was enjoyable to use in general - the way it refreshes on a timer resulted in the best way to fight any 1 on 1 fight becoming a loop of: back up / evade until harden is available, run in and get a hit, harden mid hit to absorb counter damage, and back up. - The lack of refreshable heals encouraged the above playstyle and discouraged learning the much more risky parry system on most enemies / bosses. - Fallgrim has the most confusing level design I've experienced in a soulslike. More unique-looking sections would be a huge improvement -- and remove tunnels entirely. - Enemy variety could be better, especially with how many are thrown at you sometimes. Genuinely enjoyed my time with this despite some of the game design choices being questionable. Took a while to get used to the rhythm of combat in this game (this plays pretty differently than other soulslikes) but once I did I was hooked. Hopeful that Cold Symmetry is aware of where this game falls short and is able to rework the harden system as well as improve level design and world navigation for the sequel (along with providing a larger game in general).

Mortal Shell offers a dark, atmospheric Souls-like experience with its unique “shell” mechanic and weighty combat. While its world feels immersive, the confusing map design, short length, and occasional jank keep it from reaching its full potential—making it a solid but just okay adventure. Note: I only recommend this game for the people who have finished most of the souls like and just want more however if you are new to the genre just skip it for now, and try other souls like .

Mortal Shell is my second favorite Souls Like, right after Bloodborne. It delivers a dense and atmospheric experience, with unique mechanics that bring a fresh twist to the genre

Not bad for a mid tier souls-like game, but! rather than character design and some game play mechanics I couldn't find any other positive aspects. if you want to get it, buy it only in discount, and 100% completion requires the dlc and lots of replaying it. All in all it got its pros and cons, mostly cons but game play wise speaking you'll have fun for a few hours, not for 60 hours like me

Short, mid tier souls-like game. Game has some problems but still good fun. Only recommend buying in discount though.
