(5/5★) The game Shelter One is a survival-based game that tells a story of motherhood. It makes you put yourself into the position of a mother badger who is trying to feed and nurture her children and protect them. While I was playing the game, I named each of my little badger children. Mini Me, Skunk, Pierce, Needle, and Ferret. {Yes, the names are a little weird do not judge me..} During the playthrough I lost Needle to a wave rushing through while she fell behind her siblings, she was the only one I lost and I felt genuine grief for that fictional badger, any game that can make me feel that way deserves to be played.
Pretty fun game, i'm only a bit into it and i've played once today, i didn't know what to do but this playthrough i worried a bit more about my cubs and i now know how to feed the hungry ones and make sure i don't lose them, you'll need to have a test play first for like 30 minutes and then after a bit of mulling it over you can play it later and more wise about protecting your offspring.
I'd absolutely recommend this game to anyone who wants something short and simple, but also beautiful and bittersweet. The controls are pretty basic and very easy to get the hang of, you just move around (walk/run), collect food to feed to your babies, and sometimes hunt other animals that show up on your travels. I finished this game in just a little under 1 and a half hours. I'd say for such a short experience, $15 might be a bit much (I waited for it to go on sale). But either way, it's a good game!
