Before I start, I'll clarify that I played the demo for 4 hours before purchasing the full game and playing for another 6 hours, so overall 10 hours of experience in the game. I played every faction at least twice. [TLDR:] + I enjoyed my time playing this. + the game has potential, which is good as an Early Acess game + graphics are nice + cheap - the game gets stale fast and could use some more strategy variety - the game needs better AI - some descriptions of abilities are not clear enough - the devs need to buff some units [DETAILS:] THE GOOD: + fun + easy to learn + the variety of unit abilities adds an aspect of skill expression and adaptation + price is very cheap + I haven't tried the multiplayer, but the playable factions seem balanced + the artstyle is very pleasant to look at and the character redesigns are great THE NEUTRAL: = graphics are very good looking but the lack of animation makes it hard to see units. if the devs don't plan on adding animations, they should at least add a highlight for the units on screen. = the game has bugs, but that's to be expected from an Early Access game. None of them are major. = only 4 factions have been released as of the time of this review. here's hoping the devs add more. = for now, no campaign mode. But again, this is an early access so this much can be forgiven. THE BAD: - no fullscreen, a mild annoyance. It's such an easy feature to implement, yet so many games fail to do it. - tutorial is clunky. - AI is super easy to beat even on the hardest difficulty. It's not that it is dumb, its more that it is specifically lacking aggressiveness and proper prioritization of target nations and enemy units. - lack of clarity in descriptions for buildings and units and general mechanics. you can figure them out by intuition after a few games, but its annoying that the descriptions keep bringing up the names of certain bonuses and mechanics without explicitly telling you what they do. - at a certain point of mastery (took 2 hours for me, which is a tad too quick in my opinion), the game becomes exceedingly simple. I noted above the balancing and skill expression as positives, but to a certain degree its because every option you choose will eventually devolve into hyper-aggressive rush of the enemy with some super unit backed by some cheap unit of your choice. the way you go about executing it varies from faction to faction, so from a tactical point of view it is varied, but from a strategic point of view every game has the exact same progression, so it can get stale. From what I can tell, the only units in the entire game that introduce a qualitatively different strategy are Komeji and the generic Spy unit, who allow for infiltritation, and the Mountain Tengu (can't remember the exact name) who force an extremely defensive playstyle. That's a pretty short list compared to how many units and heroes are in this game, and they are still vastly inferior to just rushing the enemy. So if you expect a strategy game with depth, this isn't the game for you. - the balance between different factions is good, but the balance inside each faction is a different story... every playable faction seems to have one weak hero that you'll never ever pick. Take Momiji for example. Her whole gimmick is that she is good at chasing after enemies, gaining momentum from killing them. However, she is just too weak to initiate on enemies, and too slow to get into the position of a "chase" consistently. compared to the other hero units of her faction, she is basically dead weight. She would really love some form of teleportation (and as a free action, too), just so she could get into a chase scenario, instead of being a slower version of Aya. For an even more extreme case, look at Tewi- almost every single ability of her is about making money. However, her money making abilities are so pitifully low that even at max level it isn't gonna make a difference. And besides, the only time you need to care about gold is early game, and at the early game she can barely make a profit of 1 gold... Her only real use is her max level ability, but the fact that she is completely useless outside of this makes her a horrible pick. A fix would have to involve her giving gold AND culture, AND increase the gold income, AND give her some utility in the early game beyond resource farming (like giving a bonus to her attack based on your gold income). Yes, she needs all of that, because she is THAT bad. FINAL THOUGHTS: + good game + cheap, so it is worth paying the price - still needs some work

This is Polytopia but Touhou themed. That include the music, art style, and hero unit characters. The music is redone to fit each character's theme to their respective faction. Designs are well done in both the artwork and in game unit designs. Hero units adds more to the Polytopia gameplay loop and give you more interest new strategies to play with. All this for $4, easily a great game for Touhou and Polytopia fans.

It's not just a reskin of Polytopia. Touhou gimmick also remains in this game. For example, Scarlet Devil Mansion has ability to spread out the red mist while Eientei has ability to create bamboo forest and summon horde of rabbit army and so on. The gameplay loop is right at the spot, not too simple or too complex. Another highlight is how the game seamlessly blends Touhou music with Civilization themes.

Giving it a recommend because it is charming and promising, but I do have a few concerns. 1. Music does not loop properly. You get a few seconds of a nice jingle and then it just kinda fizzles out and you're left with ambience. And then the music starts up again out of nowhere. It actually gets annoying. 2. There's some odd glitches where the game doesn't recognize you have certain technologies, thus preventing you from creating buildings you've unlocked or harvesting certain resources. 3. Clicking on a square often takes multiple tries for some reason. That gets *really* annoying.

𝚁𝙴𝙼𝙸𝙻𝙸𝙰 𝙼𝚄𝙽𝙳𝚄𝙼 𝚁𝙴𝙶𝙸𝚃 This game blends the gameplay of Polytopia and the civics of Civilization very well. Even with the four factions given, there is a lot of variety in playstyle. You not only have gold for use to develop your cities, but also earn cultural tokens to expand your hero roster and unique buildings! But the shining light of this game is how much personality is given to each character; each empire and hero has a little flair to leave their mark. I also really like how each empire mixes their monarch's theme and the cultural theme (the Kaguya empire uses the French aesthetic and has an electric orchestra, respectively). $4 (the price in America at least) is a steal for a game like this in early access. If you are having trouble strategizing and want to play a little chill, then choose the Komeiji tribe and choose Okuu as your first hero as she is pretty much unstoppable. I can't wait to see what civilizations and characters come next ٩(^ᗜ^ )و ´-
