Everything has been a step up from Neon Abyss 1. Lore and story progression is clear as well as interesting. The new Fate system is a good addition. There is better understanding and flow in progression in the evolution system.

My problem with the first game was that everything seemed so repetitive, with two faiths and not really all that many interesting synergies and builds. I haven't played this for very long and I already extremely appreciate the wider variety of items (more of which are gaming references, ROCK AND STONE!!) and the massively increased number of faiths makes every run unique and offer interesting ways to make your runs three hours longer because of the gambling room. My biggest adoration of this sequel, however, is the melees. Melee truly opens up more unique playstyles and it honestly feels amazing to use. Combine that with more complex weaponry and items as well as enemies and bosses and this game creates a perfect blend of difficulty, visual beauty, and skill that makes it so enjoyable and replayable, even if you aren't making significant progress. At least at the time of this review, the majority of the complaints I read were with the more busy art style and the games difficulty. I will agree with the difficulty part, but the game makes sure to boost your arsenal so you feel like you have a fighting chance. Quick sidenote: all of the bosses designs and attack schemes are fun, and the void power thingy where when you get them down to half health it adds a random attack ranging from homing projectiles to room wide laser beams makes every fight feel like a challenge. The visuals are also busier, but with the majority of enemies following the same attack schemes as the first game (besides the vast numbers of new enemies following new but also predictable ones) and the plentiful ways to restore your health, I've found very little cumulative change in difficulty from the first game. If you played and enjoyed the first Neon Abyss, I would definitely pick this up early access or not.

Keeping it short n' sweet. I spent nearly 52 hours in the first game. Perfect? No. Great sequel? Absolutely. Roadmap to greatness? Abso-goddamn-lutely. Neon Abyss 1 started out rough, I was there at day 1. I saw it grow to be beloved. Neon Abyss 2 is starting rough, but I see potential to grow and bloom. It may be rough around the edges, but I've seen the devs cultivate their work. Give it time. The first game proved me so.

Playing since the first game, I'm enjoying my time as much so far. Just like they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Grab it as it's a really fun rouge-like and for me top 3 great's in this genre hands down. Gotta Go Hatch MORE EGGS!

I told myself a couple of years ago "If Neon Abyss 2 comes out it's a day one purchase" and here we are. Can't fully review it right now but the fact the dev said that it's more content than the first game already says a lot. Better graphics more weapons smoother controls and the bosses are more of a challenge. Will update after a hundred hours
